Integrating Technology with Tradition
To understand the best way to combine technology with the age-old tradition of winemaking, the grower and the winemaker need to collaborate on what is required. Integrated Precision Viticulture (IPV) can help provide the missing link.
An interesting paragraph I found when searching the internet summarises where the two can meet.
If premium winemakers were to come up with what constituted the ideal, optimally ripe vineyard, it would be uniformly ripe clusters with small berries chock-a-block with flavour. An understanding of berry anatomy, when and where berry components are produced, is the first step in understanding the rationale behind managing wine style in the vineyard

Spectral & EM Surveys
This information will help develop management strategies to target problem areas in the vineyard. By applying various strategies to different zones you can work towards a consistent crop with less variation, thus improving the quality across the whole vineyard.
Weather Stations
By monitoring the local or even microclimates in the vineyard you can fine-tune the optimum time to apply various management strategies. By knowing information like daily ET rates, temperature and rainfall you can be forewarned of possible disease outbreaks, and adjust strategies accordingly.
